black 'n yellow

Dia tres

No tarjeta de autobus y no telefono. Fail on those fronts, but win on many others. For one thing, I resolved my slight feelings of animosity I had toward my housemate. I'm quite sure I am jealous of her confident way of holding a conversation. It's frustrating to have such a language barrier with the people I'd love to talk to. She has been a terrific help from everything from keeping the conversation flowing at dinner to dominating my knowledge of the city. I'm sticking by her and am going to learn as much as I can.

Went to the club! I had to rsvp to this email address so that I could get in without a cover charge. So, we show up to this club at about 12:15am. The rest of our group was at a bar, but we decided to skip that and go straight to the club, hang out for a bit, dance a little, then leave by 2am because we had to be at the IES abroad center by 9am. Our 45 minute commute to school was not something I looked forward to.

So, we get there and nobody's there except all of the workers running around. They let us in around 12:30 and we realize that we are opening the club. It's completely empty except us, the security guards, bar tenders and the DJ who - btw, was dancing like a fool to his own jams even before anyone was there. I liked him. He clearly wasn't worried about what people thought of him because he looked kinda crazy.

There's about 20 minutes of a small amount of rebellious looking young folk there with a couple of old, old men just chilling at the bar before the flood gates apparently opened because there were people everywhere. Before I knew it, I was jamming out to some techno song that morphed into the start of a lot of pop songs by artists in the US. About 25 people from my program showed up and were dancing on the crowded floor. We definitely drew some attention even before every one of us began singing/screaming every word to the US songs.

The porteños around us were dancing in their own groups, but couldn't help looking over at us. It was okay though. I had a great time, and it was 3am before I knew it. The cab ride home wasn't long, nor were the hours of sleep I got.

There were people from my program who stayed there as long as 5am and most of the porteños we still there. I guess they don't start partying here until the middle of the night. After you're through at the club, you are to go out to breakfast with your friends. When do people sleep here?!
